US weather forecast for Thursday (17 September)

Risk level: Low Country: United States

As per reports, US weather forecast for Thursday (17 September) is as follows:

• The US National Weather Service (NWS) Weather Prediction Center (WPC) has forecast heavy rainfall, flash flooding, thunderstorms and hazardous heat across multiple states through Friday (18 September). The most immediate flooding concern is across Arizona and New Mexico, while additional heavy rainfall and thunderstorms are forecast across parts of the Four Corners (Arizona, New Mexico, Colorado and Utah), Midwest and Ohio Valley (including parts of Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, Kentucky and surrounding states), Northern Plains (including the Dakotas and Nebraska) and Upper Midwest (including Minnesota, Wisconsin and Iowa).
• A Moderate Risk of excessive rainfall and flash flooding is in effect across portions of central Arizona and New Mexico through the night of Wednesday (16 September) to Thursday (17 September). A subtropical disturbance interacting with monsoonal moisture is forecast to produce rainfall totals of approximately two to three inches, with locally higher amounts possible.
• By Friday (18 September), the disturbance is expected to become increasingly diffuse. However, widely scattered flash flooding will remain possible across the Four Corners states of Arizona, New Mexico, Colorado and Utah amid additional rainfall and thunderstorms.
• Separately, a slow-moving frontal boundary is expected to continue to support thunderstorms and locally heavy rainfall across parts of the Midwest and Ohio Valley, including Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, Kentucky and surrounding areas. A new low-pressure system is forecast to develop over the central High Plains, including portions of Colorado, Kansas and Nebraska, during the night of Thursday (17 September). This system is expected to produce strong thunderstorms and locally heavy rainfall across the Northern Plains, including Nebraska, South Dakota and North Dakota, before progressing into the Upper Midwest, including Minnesota, Iowa and Wisconsin, on Friday (18 September).
• Hazardous heat is expected to simultaneously persist across the Southern Plains, particularly Texas and Oklahoma, extending into the Lower Mississippi Valley, including Arkansas, Louisiana and Mississippi. High temperatures in the upper 90s to lower 100s degrees Fahrenheit may challenge daily temperature records, with Heat Advisories remaining in effect in parts of the affected region. Scattered thunderstorms with heavy rainfall is also forecast across Florida, although widespread excessive rainfall is not currently anticipated.
