ICA announces stricter VEP checks for foreign vehicles entering Singapore from Tuesday (06 October)

Risk level: Low Country: Singapore

According to reports, the Singapore Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA) has announced that all foreign-registered vehicles entering Singapore through the Woodlands and Tuas land checkpoints must possess a valid Vehicle Entry Permit (VEP) from Tuesday (06 October).

• Travellers entering Singapore by car will be required to ensure that their vehicle has a valid VEP before submitting the SG Arrival Card (SGAC).
• The SGAC system will verify the vehicle’s VEP status during submission. If the vehicle does not have a valid VEP, travellers will be unable to complete the SGAC process and will be directed to apply for a VEP before travelling.
• ICA stated that travellers, including passengers, will receive advance notification if a vehicle does not have a valid VEP, allowing them to rectify the issue before commencing their journey. Vehicles arriving at the checkpoints without a valid VEP may be denied entry and required to return.
• The authority noted that a valid VEP confirms that the vehicle holds the mandatory motor insurance coverage required for the entire duration of its stay in Singapore.
• ICA also indicated that VEP verification measures will be progressively extended to other vehicle categories entering through land checkpoints.
