Mobilizations scheduled in Paris on Tuesday (15 September)

Risk level: Low Country: France

As per reports, several mobilizations are scheduled in Paris on Tuesday (15 September) and are expected to lead to large gatherings. These initiatives originate from different sectors, particularly police, education, climate change, energy and health.

• The Alliance police union has called for a mobilization on Tuesday (15 September) demanding a significant budget increase to improve pay. Two measures are being put forward: an increase in the police risk allowance, which has not been raised since 2019, and, more broadly, the allocation of more financial resources so that ‘police officers are paid adequately’. Demonstrations are expected to start at 1130 hours local time (0930 hours UTC) at the Champs-Élysées – Marcel-Dassault roundabout in Paris.
• The inter-union group for higher education and research is expected to mobilize from the start of the academic year to secure funding that meets the research and training needs of the greatest number of students and at the highest level of qualification. The demonstrations are scheduled at 1230 hours local time (1030 hours UTC) on Place Jussieu, in the fifth arrondissement of Paris, followed by a demonstration towards the Ministry of Higher Education and Research.
• A coalition of around 40 union, association, professional, and citizen organizations lists nine demands for consideration during the 2027 budget review for climate change with demonstration in front of the Ministry of Economy scheduled from 1930 hours local time (1730 hours UTC) to 2100 hours local time (1900 hours UTC).
• A strike has been called by energy sector employees, particularly electricians and gas workers, who are against the proposed changes to their preferential energy tariff. This tariff allows them to reduce their costs compared to the rates applied to other households and is considered a cornerstone of their compensation. The government is considering revising this tariff. The measure affects 140,000 employees in the sector, as well as nearly 160,000 retirees from companies. A strike whose visible effects on consumers should be limited is expected.
• Mobilizations are also planned in the health sector, but without a call for centralized action. The unions denounce budgetary austerity, the lack of resources, the deterioration of living and working conditions, the rollbacks of social protection, and the collapse of purchasing power, as seen in other sectors.
