As per reports, the Lake Shore Drive Bridge at Grand Avenue over the Chicago River in downtown Chicago remained stuck in the raised position on Wednesday (02 September) following a scheduled bridge lift, causing traffic backups and delays along DuSable Lake Shore Drive.
• Reports indicate that the Chicago Department of Transportation (CDOT) attributed the malfunction to a heat related issue, and crews were making adjustments to safely close the bridge and reopen the roadway.
• Crews were observed applying water to the bridge at approximately 1150 hours local time (1650 hours UTC) to cool the structure and facilitate closure.
• DuSable Lake Shore Drive is a major north-south route through downtown Chicago, with disruption affecting traffic in both directions around the bridge.
